Travel | Local/Independent Authors

In this book THE SEVENTH IN THE SERIES we continue along the Mornington Peninsula starting at ROSEBUD where we see people having fun at the beach and vintage cars going down the streets of old. See the holiday camps and camping grounds with ridge-pole tents where holiday makers find cheap accommodation. We visit Le Souef’s aquarium and museum with its shark pool and snake pits. We see the sights of Rye and Blairgowrie on our way to Sorrento where the old Continental and Sorrento hotels await us. We see the two funnel paddle-steamer ‘Hygeia’ at the pier and note other smaller jetties for fishers along the coast.

There are many attractions to see and one of the best is the water filtration barrels left in the sand by the Collins’ expedition of 1803 beautifully photographed by the photographer George Rose before being taken to museums in 1933.

Then on to Portsea where we note the excursion steamer ‘Hygeia has caught up with us. Along the shore of the bay we see many bathing boxes and bathers having fun in the quiet waters. On the other side of the peninsula, the ocean waves crash along the shore and many surfers and swimmers enjoy the rougher conditions.

The above is just a small taste of what you will see in this beautifully illustrated book.
